Today we changed Matthew's name to Kaiser. We did it to get in the
German spirit of our ward Oktoberfest tonight. Ok, not really. Not
really for Oktoberfest, but really we did change his name. If you are
interested in why then read on. . .
When he was born we debated heavily between Kaiser & Matthew.
We thought we had decided on Kaiser (it was unanimous between Bryce
& I and Dale) and at the last minute we decided to go with the
"safer" of the 2 names and alas we had Matthew. We love the name but
struggled from the beginning to feel like it was the right name for
him. Kaiser just kept coming back to us. When he was 3 months old we
came quite close to changing his name but chickened out yet again.
Last Sunday we were just playing around as a family and I told Bryce
that sometimes I still wish we would've named him Kaiser. His reply
was, "That's funny cause I do too. In fact, all day today I have been
thinking about how exactly we would spell it if we were to still change
it." It was crazy. And the more we talked the more we realized that
neither of us had fully taken to Matthew and we both often found
ourselves wishing he was Kai. During our talk we both kept feeling like
now was the time to make a change. It just felt right.
Today was the first opportunity we had to go together to make it
official and when we looked at his name on his new birth certificate we
felt a calming sense of peace & relief. His birth certificate reads
Kaiser Brent Mildon and we have been calling him Kai for short.
Now you all have a crazy story to tell about these silly people who
changed their baby's name at 10 months old. We never thought we'd be "those"
people but when it is right it is right. Bryce & I have been
preparing ourselves for the laughing, mocking and plain disagreement
that we will face but decided that this is just going down as a funny
story in Kai's history since we just know this is who he is.

What was the process to change his name? Was it expensive? I looked on line and it looked like SUCH a process! Do you mind emailing me and letting me know what I need to do. Oh and by the way it is to change Hansen's middle name.
Love your cute little family:)
oh, my email is rkunz22@Hotmail.com
Love Kai's new name! And it's always better to stick with what you want instead of worrying about what others will think. Congrats on the new name :-)
